Needs From: United Way of Grant County

Come help Marion Scholar House prepare our office space! We need assistance with painting walls, cleaning spaces and assembling furniture. 

Our project for Day of Action 2026 is to run a Car Wash to celebrate employees and specifically the Direct Support Professionals. This project would entail washing cars - so be prepared to be out in the sun and get wet! Bring water, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Wear shoes that you feel safe and comfortable in doing outdoor projects. 

Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Week takes place each year during the second week of September. In 2026, we will celebrate September 14–18 as an opportunity to recognize the incredible people who provide support to individuals with disabilities every day!

Our DSPs work around the clock, assisting with everything from personal care (including bathing, dressing, toileting, and feeding) to helping individuals participate fully in their communities by attending appointments, going to concerts, finding employment, and building meaningful relationships. Their work is physically demanding, emotionally rewarding, AND essential to helping people live with independence, dignity, and belonging each day!

A United Way Day of Action car wash would be a meaningful way to say "thank you" to these dedicated professionals. Volunteers could wash employees' vehicles while they are at work, giving them one less thing to worry about after a long shift and providing a tangible reminder that their service is seen, valued, and appreciated by the community they serve.

We are looking for a team to test old technology and help bring what does not work up load into trucks and take to the recycling center. 

We would love to accomplish the following needs in the listed areas within our building:

Kitchen- Giving our commercial size kitchen a deep clean; including floors, sinks, stove, refrigerators, pantry, supplies, etc. 

Flooring- Tearing up all carpet and flooring throughout our facility for new flooring to be installed later on! 

Painting Hallway- (North side of building by offices)

iPad -Resets, Disinfecting, etc. 

All supplies will be provided during day of action event!

Affordable Housing Corporation is excited to partner with SAWs for United Way’s Day of Action to build a wheelchair ramp for a Fairmount community member who recently became a double amputee.

SAWs is a nonprofit volunteer organization that builds wooden wheelchair ramps for low-income individuals with permanent disabilities, helping transform lives one ramp at a time. Volunteers will help complete the ramp, and no prior woodworking or construction experience is needed—just come ready to lend a hand and make a difference!

We’ll wrap up the day with a special ribbon cutting alongside the tenant to celebrate their new ramp and the independence and accessibility it will provide. Join us for a rewarding day of teamwork, community, and creating an impact that will last well beyond the Day of Action!

Paint the metal black accent details on the bridges. They have faded out with age and have some graffiti on them. Painting requires some bending down, maybe even sitting down, to paint. No climbing required. We provide gloves, brushes and paint. Recommend you wear "work clothes".

We are looking for volunteers for two shifts (6:30am-9:30am & 9:15am-12:15pm). Volunteers will receive a free event t-shirt and a free breakfast. 

Each month, Thriving provides meals for anyone in Grant County with help from volunteers. Our Thanksgiving meal is usually the largest attended meal with an average of 300 meals.

Help us continue to make an impact in Grant County by volunteering for our monthly Community Meal held the 4th Wednesday of each month at Gas City First United Methodist Church.

There are several opportunities to volunteer. Whether you'd like to help prep meals, deliver meals or clean up, we have a spot for you!

Help Us Keep the Community Cupboard Full

Affordable Housing Corporation is asking for your help in keeping our Community Cupboard stocked throughout the year.

The Community Cupboard was created with a simple purpose: neighbors helping neighbors. It is a place where community members can give what they can and take what they need—without judgment, questions, or barriers.

We welcome donations of nonperishable food items, personal hygiene products, household essentials, kitchen supplies, and other useful everyday items. Every donation, big or small, can make a meaningful difference to someone in our community.

Located in the heart of Marion near the public library, the Community Cupboard serves many individuals and families each day due to the high foot traffic in the area. With school out for the summer and many households facing rising costs, the need for support is greater than ever.

We all experience difficult seasons in life. The Community Cupboard is a simple, compassionate way for us to care for one another and ensure that no one feels alone when times get tough.

If you are able, please consider stopping by and leaving a few items for your neighbors in need. We kindly ask that all donations be clean, safe, unopened when applicable, and in good condition.

Together, we can continue building a stronger, more caring community—one small act of kindness at a time.

As a delivery driver, you’ll bring nutritious meals and a warm smile to individuals across Grant County. Volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring these residents receive both the nourishment and friendly connection they may not otherwise have. You can even choose which days, Monday through Friday, that work best for your schedule.
