Who We Are
Located in a historic 1902 Carnegie library building, the History Center at Marion Public Library connects the public with Grant County's rich past. The historic building itself is a treasure, showcasing neoclassical architecture with a stunning facade, original mosaic floors, and grand staircases crafted from imported Italian marble. Originally the home of the Marion Public Library, the structure was repurposed as a museum in 1992, continuing its legacy as a center for learning and community connection.
What We Do
Through its local history museum and the Indiana History & Genealogy Room, the History Center offers an extensive collection of local history resources. Engaging exhibits highlight pivotal moments in our region's story, including the gas boom era, the free Black settlement of Weaver, and Marion's rise as the "Home of the Hog." In addition, the History Center periodically hosts local history events and presentations, provides genealogy and research assistance, and offers public access to its historic photo collection of over 7,000 images.
